WhatsApp is history, here comes WowApp
Earn money without doing any work? Sounds too good to be true! Where is the catch? These were my feelings exactly when I first heard about WowApp. I scanned through the internet but I couldn´t find any major stinker. In fact, the tone is overwhelmingly positive. Just two examples here:
I have to admit though that the tech behind this app does not have the same level of polish as WhatsApp. The lack of years of refinement and polish of WhatsApp shows: sluggish behavior when the connection is bad, lots of data usage and such annoyances. Personally, I didn´t mind it that much.

Earning money with WowApp
The easiest way to earn money via WowApp is the banner advertisement. No, you don´t need to click it or to buy anything. The WowApp developer also added several more ways to earn money over the course of time. Some of them remind me of different pay-to-click websites. I don´t like these earning opportunities too much because they are not a passive income and I think the time and effort of the developer would be better spent on improving the user experience and chat functionality since WhatsApp is still ahead in these things.
How much you earn with WowApp strongly depends on your smartphone usage. On days were I don´t do anything with it, earnings go down significantly. On weekends, I often check what my friends and family are up to so I use my smartphone more. The earnings range from 0.5 to 2 Cents per day (1 Cent = 1 WowCoin). Sounds pathetic but you have to take into consideration that this money comes without any extra effort. And if you invite people into your network, you participate in their earnings as well. This is a very, very big deal, I will discuss it in detail in the next chapter.

AdvertiseMe and Lockscreen Ads:
As already mentioned, banner advertisement (AdvertiseMe) on your smartphone is the most basic way of earning money with WowApp. Use the chat like you normally would and they are sometimes displayed on the top/bottom of the screen. The banners are quite small and not really annoying. If you think otherwise, you can deactivate them (but you lose some earning potential, of course).
Then there are Lockscreen Ads. They replace the lockscreen of your smartphone, that´s the screen you swipe away before you use your smartphone. If you don´t find them annoying, you should activate them in the "earnings" tab. They easily generate ten times the income of AdvertiseMe.

Free Games:
WowApp also sports a few free Games to play. They also display advertisements that generate income for you. As a passionate video gamer, these basic games don´t appeal to me in the slightest.
Instant Earn and Shop Online:
There is also an Instant Earn option where you can spend time and effort to earn a few extra coins by completing simple tasks. They range from completing surveys to watching videos and installing software on your smartphone. As I already mentioned, there are websites that specialize on that stuff and pay better. The same applies to the Shop Online option. Here you can browse the variety of participating shops and when you buy something, you earn some cashback.

Passive income with WowApp
The website of WowApp frequently mentions the so-called "Power of Sharing". Well, it certainly is powerful when it comes to the referral program. When you invite someone to WowApp, this person will join your network. And you will receive a part of his earnings. Of course, his own earnings are not reduced, he gets the same amount whether the person joins via your link or on his own. Here is an example table:

As you can see in the table above, you not just earn from your direct invites (Generation 1) but from their invites as well (Generation 2) and from their invites and so on...
If you can convince 3 people to join WowApp and every one of them also convinves 3 people to join, you will arrive at a personal network size of 3^8= 6561 members. And each and every one of them will contribute to your earnings. Cents per day can turn into Dollars, but the most difficult task lies ahead of you: convincing people to join. They are so used to WhatsApp and afraid of testing something new, they would even cling to WhatsApp if it would send out electrical shocks with a new patch.
Fun factor
Chatting with friends is not exactly what I consider hard work. WowApp pays you for doing exactly this, passive and without any extra effort. Sounds great and it really works.
It works so well that using WhatsApp seems outdated to me. By the way, a fraction of your earnings is automatically donated to charity and you can choose who you want to support. So now WowApp also has the moral high ground.

There are better, more specialized websites if you want to do small tasks to earn money.

No major issues detected. WowApp is not a fraud.
